Create a Lucky March Clover

MicrosoftTeams-image (6)The arrival of March means spring is almost here! A welcome change for most of us after making it through the cooler winter season. The third month of the year is also associated with March Madness, St. Patrick’s Day, and National Reading Month. Did you know it’s also National Craft Month?

It’s the perfect time to create something you can be proud of. So, we’re going to make a green clover inspired by a few of those things. The most important supplies you’ll need are creativity and a little luck. We’ve even created a simple template that can be printed at home to make things even easier! You’ll also need:

  • Scissors
  • Crayons or markers

First, cut your clover out. If you have older kids or safety scissors for little ones, this can be done independently to practice or build fine motor skills.

Next, start a mindful conversation about what makes your child feel lucky. Is it having a warm, safe space to call home? Maybe it’s the companionship of siblings or friends. Perhaps it’s a hug from grandparents, a delicious meal, a favorite book or sports skill, or a toy that makes them feel happy. These are just a few ideas to get you started! What else might land on your child’s list?

Choose four things and help them write one on each leaf of the four-leaf clover.

Next, it’s time to color! We suggest traditional shades of green, but any color will do! There’s nothing wrong with a rainbow clover or one that looks more like a flower. Let their imagination lead the way, as you continue to discuss the importance of gratitude with a sprinkle of good fortune.

If you’re up for another March-inspired craft, you can also make a Shamrock Sun Catcher from our craft archives. Hang it in the window to reflect the sunshine we’ll hopefully be seeing more of as we celebrate the start of spring!
